Remember your small appliances are great energy savers not only during the holidays but also all year long.

Crock-PotSlow cookers (crock-pots) are perfect for busy families. On average, they will cook a whole meal for about 17 cents worth of electricity. Your food will also be amazingly rich in flavor!

Don't forget to use your Co-op Connections card when you do your holiday shopping.

As much as 75 percent of electricity use by electronics occurs while the devices are off.

PowerstripBig-screen TVs, computers and those items we charge (like call phones and hand-held games) are the worst offenders. Curtail the loss with power strips that kill power when the items are not in use or simply unplug the chargers when you're not using them. This will save you about $40 a year.

Pull down stairsYour attic may be sealed tight and insulated, but you've overlooked a gaping, 21-sq.-ft. hole that hemorrhaging money: the pull-down stairs. You can buy an insulated cover or build your own from rigid polystyrene insulation. By insulating your pull-down attic stairs, you will save about $4 a month on your electric bill.

 Dear Jackson Energy:

Rita ChrismanIn July, my family switched from traditional montly billing to the new pre-pay meter and we have been so impressed with this service that I decided to write you a brief note in the hopes of being of service to my fellow Jackson Energy customers. This system is phenominal, there are simply no other words to describe it. We had a pretty hefty installation deposit and the pre-pay system drafted money from that account until the entire deposit was depleted. Customery who have a deposit paid in are literally allowing their money to just sit there if they do not participate in this pre-pay service. Then, the ability to pay whatever we can, whenever we can has truly saved our budget! Customers, the way this works is, as long as you have money on your account, you can pay whatever amount you are able to pay, if it is $5 or $55, and you can do this whenever you have the money, discluding times when your local office is normally closed. Don't have time to swing by the office? That's okay too because you can call and allow the amount of money you wish to spend deducted from your checking account, right from the comfort of your own home. The best and most important benefit of this program is that it has literally cut our electric usage in half! Our bills were running over $500.00 per month in the winter and last month, we used a little over $200.00. The only explanation I have for this is that the box which is plugged into an outlet in the home tells you how much money you used in electricity the day before, which in turn makes you more conscientious of the number of lights that are burning, the thermostat setting and other wasteful energy burners inside the home. Thank you for allowing me to share my story. I truly hope that other customers can experience these amazing benefits for themselves when they sign up for the incredible pre-pay service.

Best Wishes!
